History
Scuderia Ferrari was formed by Italian racing driver and engineer Enzo Ferrari at first as a privately owned Alfa Romeo racing team. At first, Ferrari simply tuned cars made by another Italian car maker called Alfa Romeo but eventually broke away from them to become their own company in 1939. Because of World War II, the production of racing cars were halted and the Ferrari factory in Maranello was bombed, but quickly rebuilt. it was not until March 12th of 1947 that Ferrari finally produced their first road car, called the 125 S, which took over two years to develop and build. In the beginning, Enzo Ferrari designed road cars as a way to fund his new racing team and never intended for the production of road cars to have lasted as long as it has. Having won their first Mille Miglia ( Thousand miles) race in 1948, its first Le Mans 24 hour race in 1949, and its first Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix in 1951, Ferrari became World Champions for the first time in 1952.
